Needs for the upcoming riding season!

Last year I did a similar post--- I included show clothing/riding apparel some of you might need. I added to it and updated the links for more current options--- hope this helps as you shop for the coming show/riding season! If you have any questions feel free to text or email me :)

---------------------------------------------------------

For those starting to get a longer leg-- usually around the 10-11 yr old age range, it is a good idea to start thinking about wearing half chaps for every day riding/lessons-- childs sizes OR Adult sizes
-----------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who are over the age of 13 and plan to show this year--- you have to have TALL boots. Thinking ahead to show season! Please look at the measurement charts included before ordering and measure for the right size! The boots should fit snugly and reach up to the back of your knee.

Here is a nice starter pair $72.99 (synthetic leather-- doesn't last as long as the leather kind but still look nice and do the job for a few years of wear while your feet are still growing!! ) http://www.horse.com/item/tuffrider-ladies-starter-field-boots/E002422/

And these are a well priced leather pair of the same brand $155-- http://www.horse.com/item/tuffrider-ladies-baroque-field-boot/E003611/

If you want to spend a bit more, the Ariat boots are very nice/comfy and break in fast and will last for many years (I have a pair that is over 10 yrs old) if well taken care of. These are nice for those who think their feet are done growing! $280--- www.horse.com/item/ariat-heritage-contour-field-boot/E009979/

--------------------------------------------------------------
If you will be doing Cross Country Lessons or our advanced riding camp-- you will need a safety vest.  These are two options-- both are appropriate for riding at Knights Landing and any outside events we might get to.

Not Certified (same as one of mine) $65-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251308061947?lpid=82

Equestrian International has certified ones on sale RIGHT now, so now is the time to snatch them up!! $130--- http://www.horsetackinternational.com/riding-safety-vest-by-supraflex-2010.html#.UuBN2rQo6M8

Happy New Year :)

We got to solidly finish out 2013 with our holiday get together and it was really great to see so many Knight's Landing people in one place, at one time! Rarely do I stop to realize how many of you there really are! It is very easy to get caught up on just thinking about the 7 or 8 I see in a day for lessons! In just another month or so we will be at my 1 year mark for being at the farm. I started at the beginning of March this past year and it has been such a great time. We have made a lot of changes, added a number of horses and are planning lots of fun things for 2014! I wanted to do a bit of an overview of just what we are planning :)

Farm horse shows-- we did our very first KL student/boarder show in October and we plan to do this again at the end of the season in October, but along with this we are hoping to do one Fun Show that is open to the public as well as a Combined Test (Dressage/Stadium Jumping). All of this requires a lot of organizing and man power! We are kind of learning as we go, but hope to do more of this kind of thing as time goes on.

Camps-- Karolyn has been running beginner camps for a number of years and it has been very popular! This past year (my first), she added two slots to each camp session for a total of 12 campers in each of three sessions (it used to be only 10) and filled every single slot! We had lots of fun and plan to run 3 beginner camps again this year. They will be organized just a bit differently and we will be adding yet another 2 slots to make it 14 per session. We have enough suitable horses this year to make that possible!

Along with the beginner camps we are going to do a week for more advanced campers! This camp session will be open to those who already have a solid walk/trot/canter and are jumping at least cross rails on up to any height. We will go much more in depth with our horsemanship lessons OFF the horses as well as have more riding time overall. We wanted to do this to enable our students (and outsiders) who have much more experience, the opportunity to add to their education as riders/horse people.  I am hoping we see some of our usual suspects from around the farm participating in this! This session will be limited to 8 or 9 riders only. We are still coming up with all of the specifics for this one but it will be a great deal different from our usual beginner camps, MUCH more hands on! This would be great for those of you whom I see every week at lessons that would like a more intensive week of learning:)

Clinics-- We have Dom Schramm from Evention TV scheduled to come for a clinic late this Spring-- he will be doing groups of 4-5 in the ring, over fences-- as well as a XC group or 2 out in the XC field if we have the demand for it-- and we will have minimal slots open for PRIVATE Dressage lessons with him that day as well. Dom is an upper level Eventer who is gaining quite a bit of popularity all over the country for his teaching and great sense of humor! Info on Dom and his wife Jimmie can be found here-- http://schrammequestrian.com/training.php#

On the flip side, I wanted to also make sure we covered the Hunter side of things since we do quite a bit of Hunter-esque activities ;) Sue Sisco, who is one of my former bosses, will most likely be coming for a day in September to do a Clinic with us as well!  Sue has been in the Hunter business a long time. She is an "R" judge in Hunters, Hunter Breeding, Equitation and is quite well known to our area. Until very recently she had her operation in Southern Lancaster County, but now resides permanently in Aiken, SC. She will be coming back up North for a visit :) You can find out more about Sue here--(Website is not yet updated for their new location)http://www.suesiscosunfield.com/Sunfield/Home.html

Traveling to Events-- We are also beginning to plan our outings for the year. Show schedules are beginning to be posted on websites/flyers and we are making a list as we speak as to possibilities for us. As we did this past year, the goal is to get out to a variety of things-- Dressage shows, Combined Tests, Pace Events,  Hunter/Jumper shows and all of our 4h events. Christina and I will also be traveling to Events ourselves with our own silly boys and might possibly have some of you along for your first dive in to the Eventing world!

I am looking forward to lots of exciting things this year and I hope everyone else is too! :)
